  1. Remembrance has always left me with mixed emotions. My grandfather would tell me of WW1 in which he served and how the hopes at the end of the war were dashed by the depression of a few years later. He would question what ‘victory’ really achieved and how the loss of so many young lives seemed to serve no purpose. Yet he also believed firmly that a stand was needed to prevent Nazi Germany from taking over Europe. Those who served usually have deeper feelings and greater understanding of conflict than those, like myself, who have never experienced conflict upon home soil.
