Be Your Own Sunshine

This is the fifth poem I’ve written for children of family and friends. I’d like to make Flowers For Children a gift book for Christmas.

Flowers For Children:

Be Your Own Sunshine

You can be

your own Sunshine

on a rainy day.

You can be

your own Hero

come to save

you from dismay.

Bad and Mad

may try to hide

your Happy Sunshine,

to take your Joy away,

but you have

Secret Powers

to Light your way

both Night and Day.

Monster Fears

may try to scare you

but come what may,

your Light is strong,

as Love of Life

can win the Day.

Storms and Troubles

may circle ‘round you

to rob your Light,

your Peace and Joy,

your Right to be

your Happy Self

but you still shine

your Inner Wealth.

Shine your Light, Child,

ever brighter.

Shine on and on…

your Light is strong.

Flowers For Children:

The Quiet Place

When angry people

make me mad

and stir up fears…

When hurtful people

make me sad

and cause me tears…

When harsh noises

feel so bad

and hurt my ears…

I find inside

the Still Place,

the Quiet Place

where I draw inside

and paint a Place

where I am Glad…

where I can be

Happy and Care Free…

a Place no one

can take from me…

a Holy Place

where I am safe…

I am in Peace

and Peace is in me…

I am in Love

and Love is in me…

I am in Joy

and Joy is in me…

I draw Peace

and Love and Joy

where they can be

as Life on Earth

was meant to be…

I carry that Place,

that Special Place

inside of me

and it carries me

through

the mad and sad

and angry World

everywhere I see…

Though I am just

a Little Child,

I know

that Place and Way

to Light-en up

my Day…

Flowers For Children:

A Child of Life

You are a Jewel

of great worth,

a Child of Life

on Planet Earth.

Your Love shines

as Diamonds

and Sunbeams

and Moonbeams

and Rainbows

and Starlight.

Your Mind and Heart

are clear and bright.

Quick to forgive,

you wish no harm

to anyone

or anything.

Your Light is strong.

You bless the Earth

and all who live,

or ever lived,

just by Being You.

Your Love of Life

grows ever strong.

The Heavens rejoice.

The Angels sing.

A Child of God,

you are a Jewel

of great worth,

one of many

to bless this Earth.

When Forces press

to crush, they fail.

You are Love’s Light

and shall prevail.

Like Diamonds,

you grow stronger still.

Your Spirit shines

ever brighter still,

for you are Life

Flowers For Children:

I Do Recall

I do recall

as if still there…

a cool air night

and bright moonlight…

a street lamp shines

its light on trees

that seem asleep

but I’m awake

and warm and safe

held in Mother’s arms…

I know no words

but feel her love

and tender care…

I do recall

as if still there…

I’m sitting up

on garden ground

with chubby child feet

that feel cool grass

and gentle breeze

and warm sunlight…

all around

is golden light

that fills me up…

I’m seeing flowers

all around…

I’m growing too

like flowers do

but more aware…

I feel the awe

of morning light

all around

as little birds call

to each other

there…

I do recall

as if still there…

on starlit nights

our Father calls

us all outside

to sit in chairs

or rest upon

the garden grass…

I look in wonder

at the heavens…

the bright starlights

across the sky

seem to call me

to far places

strange and known…

I look up and feel

an inner call

deep down inside

I can’t explain…

I know no words

like language strange…

I lift my arms

to touch the sky

with my own hands…

I am home

all around

and everywhere…

I still recall

my Father quiet

in the starlight

and his love

as he calls us

to the garden

and happy wonders

there…
